Welcome to Neponset Valley Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of Walpole and Dedham! We know that you have many choices when it comes to managing your oral and maxillofacial surgical needs. We are honored that you have chosen our practice.
We are a family of like-minded and skilled surgeons. Dr. Lawrence Herman founded our practice in 1994. Dr. Herman completed his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his residency training at the Albert Einstein college of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. He is a native of Cambridge and has been an active member of our community living and raising his family here.
Dr. Herman welcomed Dr. Sara Runnels into the practice in 2003. She is originally from Maine and relocated here after graduating from Tufts University and completing her residency and medical degree programs at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Kurt Herman, his son, returned here to his hometown of Walpole after completing his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his residency training at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston.

In other words, NVOMS cares.
Losing a tooth due to injury, dental decay, or gum disease can happen. Implants help improve eating, avoid bone loss, and are oftentimes less destructive to adjacent teeth compared to fixed bridgework. In certain situations, bone grafting may be necessary to provide a strong foundation for the implant.
Wisdom teeth, which are also known as the third molars, are the last permanent teeth to develop in the oral cavity as well as the final ones to come into place. Due to lack of eruption, partial eruption or malposition, wisdom teeth can be difficult to clean leading to problems with the adjacent teeth (dental decay), gum disease, infections, crowding and even pathology such as cysts.
An impacted tooth is one that fails to erupt and remains impacted by varying amounts of overlying soft tissue and bone. In conjunction with orthodontic treatment, otherwise healthy but impacted teeth can be brought into proper dental arch position and function.
If tissue abnormalities or lesions are present in the oral and maxillofacial area, it must be determined if they are the result of congenital or genetic conditions, infection, trauma, environmental causes, have developed for another medical reason or if they are idiopathic (without a known cause).
Anesthesia offers individuals with general anxiety about going to the oral surgeon, or fears about a specific oral surgery procedure, the opportunity to have a stress free and more comfortable experience.
